CONNECTED PERSONS/KINSHIP ASSESSMENTS

What do connected persons assessments include?

All of our Connected Persons Assessments pay particular attention to:

  • The nature of the child’s and the kinship carers’ continued relationship and attachment with the birth parent(s) and how this may affect the order;

  • Any potential risks of harm to the child and carer arising from this arrangement

  • Arrangements regarding contact between the child and the birth parents

  • Criminal records checks are carried out on carer and anyone 16 years, and over, who resides in the home

  • Medical check with a letter/Certificate of Medical Fitness

What else is included?

  • A synopsis of risk and protective factors

  • A genogram

  • A financial overview

  • An assessment of support and supervision needs

Assessment process

  • First home visit within 7 days of receiving all referral documents

  • Assessment schedule agreed between social worker and the carer(s)

  • An assessment plan is submitted to the instructing party

  • Social worker will meet with carers, together and separately, child/ren, school and other professionals, as relevant

Timescales

  • All connected persons assessments are completed within 10 -12 weeks

  • Accelerated assessments can be completed within 8 weeks for an additional fee
